During this trip, I wrote 16 posts about my Hawaii experience; one for each day I was there. This post is an attempt to distill those long posts into something more consumable. Naturally, the 16 posts are there if you want to read them but not everyone has that time…

Disney+ and the Deluge of Streaming Services

Disney+ is the latest streaming offering from one of the largest publishers of content in the world. During Disney’s 2019 investor day, Disney announced a November 12 launch date for their new product. Priced attractively at 6.99/month or 69.99/year, Disney+ is yet another service trying to take a cut of the big streaming pie. Streaming services took the world by storm with Netflix’s original offering. At the time, Netflix was an all you can eat buffet where viewers could get a ton of content for one low price. No longer did we have to pay $120 for a package that included tons of crap we didn’t want. We could pay…

  • I’m Getting That Nielsen Survey Money

It arrived in an envelope. The crispest one dollar bill I’ve ever seen. It was a letter from the Nielsen people, the ones of television ratings fame. They wanted me to fill out a Nielsen survey. I was one of chosen ones. They said, “here’s a dollar, a brand new one, just for you, just for opening this letter.” I showed my wife, marveled at that crisp new dollar. I thought about framing it, that first Nielsen dollar, looking fresh from the treasury. That thought lasted a brief second before my wife took it, folded it and put it in her wallet. Damn, my crisp dollar, folded and ruined forever.…

[This post about my honeymoon in Hawaii may include affiliate links at no cost to you.] It’s time to start planning my honeymoon in Hawaii! Yes, the day is finally here. The trip is booked and I’m only a few months away from being in Hawaii! The flights are all set as are all of our lodgings and now it’s time to figure out what we want to do there. That might make it sound like we just booked it all today. However, in reality, we sat down a few months ago and picked out where wanted to go. We had my fiancee’s dad help with the planning and he…

  • My finance blog is changing a little bit

I originally started this website with two intentions. The first was to track my spending and portfolio. In essence, it was to be a simple finance blog. The goal was to force myself to save more. In that regard, it has worked very well. The second goal was to become a better writer. What better venue to do that than a blog where I could talk about all things finance. In that regard, it has worked decently. I have written quite a bit about the world of money. My writing style and quality have both improved. People have commented and visited my blog and it’s been exciting to see it…

Golfing Like a Pro – Trying Golf for the First Time in my Life

Let’s play that golf – my first time golfing Worried about your first time golfing? I was! Golf has always been a mystery to me. It’s a game that seemed inaccessible when I was growing up. You needed clubs, balls, special clothing and then you had to pay the course fees too. That’s a lot of cash to spend especially when you’re pretty poor. It seemed so much easier just to buy a basketball and go to a court. Hell, you could even go to the court and use someone else’s basketball. That meant that in my 35 years on this earth, I have never played golf. In truth, I’ve…
