Hawaii Diaries #11 – Inter Island Travel and Hopping to Maui

Turns out inter island travel is easy which is convenient since we have to do it twice and this move from Kauai to Maui was the first one. We were up pretty early to pack and get going. Bob, a friendly cardinal came out to say goodbye as we got on the road. The vistas behind the house are something I’ll remember fondly from this trip. Our place in Princeville was pretty awesome and I took one final look at the great view in front of it before we got going. It was 9 A.M. and our flight to Maui was at 1 P.M. so we had plenty of time.…

  • Hawaii Diaries #10 – Kauai Escape Room and Our Last Full Day in Kauai

We did the Kauai Escape Room. It was our last day in Kauai and we wanted to take it easy. This whole trip has been filled with excursions so our last day was meant to be relaxing. We started with breakfast at home while the wife finished the puzzle. It was a team effort since I put two pieces in at the beginning! One piece was missing but 503/504 pieces ain’t bad! The Kauai Escape Room was at noon in the southern part of the island; it was about an hour trek from Princeville. On the way, we stopped at a farmer’s market and picked up some rambutan; the weird…

  • Hawaii Diaries #9 – Snorkeling and a Kauai Luau

We did the tourist thing; a Kauai Luau. We’ve been in the north for a few days and this greets us every morning. That’s not a bad view! The plan for today was to walk down to the Princeville resorts beach and do some snorkeling. However, the wife worked on the puzzle a bit first before we left. After breakfast, we walked down to the beach. This is the same beach we visited yesterday but this time we brought some snorkel gear and some towels. The water was warm and relatively clear and the snorkeling there was OK. It wasn’t as good as Poipu Beach in the south but the…

  • Hawaii Diaries #8 – Exploring Princeville and Hanalei

Thanksgiving was our first full day in Princeville. The weather in Princeville seems to change on a dime. Heavy rain started to move in so we spent the first few hours of the day hanging out at our place. My wife started a puzzle we found in the house. The cabinet also had a bunch of other games and even a few books for days like this one. It was still raining after breakfast so we decided to drive around the area until it stopped. We left Princeville and headed towards Hanalei to the west. It’s only a few miles away and we there’s a few lookouts of Hanalei valley…

  • Hawaii Diaries #7 – First Time Horseback Riding and An Outdoor Dinner

Happy Thanksgiving all! I’m writing this from a new AirBnB in the north. Yesterday was a packed day which started with horseback riding in the morning. It was one of the last planned excursions we had. It was also our last day in the southern part of the island. We were up early, packed up and got going. There was still a bit of time before we needed to be at the ranch so we stopped to check out the Grand Hyatt resort on the way. The place is what you’d expect from a $500+ a night hotel. There are many manicured paths and a few expensive restaurants on site.…
