Time in the Market’s Q3 2018 Goal Review

It’s goal review time, the part of the year where I judge myself on how successful I’ve been in achieving the random goals I set at the start of the year. Last year’s Q3 Goal Review got me into gear. That exercise was a big reason as to why I met my goals. I’m hoping this year is more of the same although the circumstances are a bit different. When I did my halfway point goal review, things were looking great. I was killing it in every area and looking good. However, I knew that I had some expenses coming up that would impact that negatively. First, there was my…

2018 Halfway Point and Reviewing Goals

Goals are great but reviewing goals is key to actually achieving them. There’s no point in setting them without a plan to achieve them in place. Last year I did a Q3 review, saw I was behind and kicked myself into gear. Through that, I was able to do pretty well when it came to my 2017 goals. This year, I’m doing that same review a bit earlier in the year. It’s right at the midpoint mark of the year. I set my goals when it was freezing outside so it’s nice to have some warm weather around for this mid-year review. It’ll be good to see how I’m doing…

Career crossroads – my insurance job is boring

An insurance job is decent. It’s often low stress, steady and predictable. Sometimes, in rare spurts, it’s even interesting. However, most times, an insurance job is just plain boring. Hmm, maybe that just applies to most office jobs. I, like many Americans, sit in a cubicle all day. It’s a spacious cubicle so I’m lucky in that regard. It even has high walls. There’s a computer there and a monitor too. I have a keyboard, a mouse and a comfortable chair. The company provided the keyboard but I bought the mouse myself, it’s an ergonomic one. I even have a view of a park since I have a window seat.…

Golfing Like a Pro – Trying Golf for the First Time in my Life

Let’s play that golf – my first time golfing Worried about your first time golfing? I was! Golf has always been a mystery to me. It’s a game that seemed inaccessible when I was growing up. You needed clubs, balls, special clothing and then you had to pay the course fees too. That’s a lot of cash to spend especially when you’re pretty poor. It seemed so much easier just to buy a basketball and go to a court. Hell, you could even go to the court and use someone else’s basketball. That meant that in my 35 years on this earth, I have never played golf. In truth, I’ve…

Time in the market’s 2017 goal review

The year is over, my 2017 year in review is done so it’s time for my annual goal review. Last year, when I designed these goals, I thought it’d be nice to tier them and give myself stretch goals. I set up three separate medals for each goal mirroring the Olympics. I made a bronze tier, a silver tier and a gold tier. It’s good timing that I’m writing this up just as the Olympics are happening. These goals were created with the idea that bronze is reachable and anything beyond is more of a stretch. It’s just like the Olympics, you need a lot of hard work to get…
